Karey McGlinchey, Day 5

Malawi day 5

We were up and excited to begin the Pastors & wives conference this morning. Pastor Ed walked us through 2 Corinthians 6 this morning and verses 3  and 11-12 stuck with me.  3)“We put no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry,”  11-12) “We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections.” As I teach the gospel I need to be sure to only teach the Bible and not anything else. I also need to be sure that the only offense given comes from Scripture and not from anything that I say or do. That can be difficult in a culture that I don’t completely understand, but I’m trusting God and trying to let Scripture do the speaking. Then, on the other hand, in verse 12 I was reminded that if I, as a Christian, am restricted in service to the Lord, it is only through my own sin. When I turn toward the world and my own flesh, I will not have a clear testimony for Christ. Both of these challenged me today.

We had about 50 pastors’ wives join us this morning at the mission house. Janine, Gabby, Allie and myself taught from the book Disciplines of a Godly Woman. We were able to cover the disciplines of Godliness, prayer, the mind, worship, and church. At first the women were pretty shy and quiet, which is pretty normal for the women here. But during lunch many went to Tendai, our translator today, and gave her many questions to ask us. We looked them over and because the nature of many of them had to do with marriage, we told them we would answer them tomorrow after we discuss the discipline of marriage. After a yummy lunch of rice, hard boiled eggs and cabbage we set back to teaching. The women did begin to warm up and asked and answered several questions. One lady even asked a follow up question using scripture! It was great to see that they are getting into the Word. We gave them much to think about, talk to their husbands about this evening and then challenged them to make some godly changes in their lives. Tomorrow we will talk about marriage, witness and giving (if we have time we will discuss perseverance as well). We are expecting many, many questions after the marriage session.

The Romanian team is busy packing and cleaning as they leave bright and early tomorrow morning. The rest of us are recouping and waiting for dinner. Ovi decided to start the conference at 7:30 am so we can finish in time for the people to travel home safely before dark. Some came as far as 6 hours! Needless to say, we will be turning in early tonight.

Thank each one of your for your prayers and support! Keep praying!
