You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth
– Jesus (Acts 1:8)
These words of our Lord are a prediction about the global spread of the gospel. But these words are also a calling. Jesus is giving His disciples marching orders, outlining the strategy for the fulfillment of the plan and purpose of God the Father – the Spirit-empowered salvation of His people for the glory of His name and the exaltation of His Son.
As we pursue the mission of God at Highland Park, Acts 1:8 gives us the parameters for our missionary strategy as a church. We are witnesses for Jesus at three distinct levels of engagement:
1. Local (“in Jerusalem”) – For us, this covers all of Jefferson County, KY.
2. Regional (“Judea and Samaria”) – For us, this covers the state of Kentucky and all of North America.
3. Global (“the ends of the earth”) – For us, this covers all the nations outside North America.
