Janine Wasson, Travel to Day 1

Malawi 2024

Ephesians 4:3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Where to start……the trip went really well! Car rides, shuttles and flights…..nothing too unusual except where Karey wanted to have a pillow fight on one of the plane rides! We all have been praying to be intentional with our travel time and engage where the Lord would have us……all of us were able to have different conversations. You know, it struck some of us…..not to “read a book by its cover”. We did encounter a lady who was……adamant about her needs at the cost of others. But once we sat down and started talking with her, that hard facade melted away. She was just tired! Humbled us……we don’t know what others are walking through….but we do know to share the love of Christ.

Samuel and Ed picked us up with ALL our luggage! Woot woot! The travel and lunch back to the mission house and catching up was filled with laughter, familiar sights and tired travelers. And then we all got our fill of snuggling little Alfred, Stanley and Doreen’s newest little man!

Lita created one of her delicious soups and we enjoyed fellowship with the Romanian team with a game of “bean boozle”! For most, sleep came quite quickly!

Today…4/21/24 Sunday.

Everyone was excited for our first day with no alarm clocks needed! Church service was in Likungwati. Last year, we visited the church as it was being built. Today it was full! It is up on a hill that looks over Zomba. Worship was very spiritual filled. One lone drum and voices. Gabby and Allie took the children outside for a bible lesson on Jonah and the explanation of salvation using the evangecube. Samuel lead them with a few songs and then I shared Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace. This scripture speaks to all of us no matter our age…….the world, friends and others will try to get us to worship something other than the one true God. We must stand on His Word, we must know His Word and we must trust in only Him. Doesn’t really matter where we live, the enemy will try to get us to put idols above Him! I shared the salvation message again and we headed back in for Ed to preach.

Ed preached on Ephesians 4: 1-6. The verse that started out this note for today has been on my heart. “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

Unity and peace can be so easily broken by our humanism. Unity and peace- two gifts Christ gives us upon salvation. We choose what we do with it. Do we use it to build up the body? Do we humbly submit to them and keep our focus on Christ?

Lunch at Kips and then a relaxing afternoon filled with all kinds of conversations AND COFFEE while Ethan, Praise and Promise played and entertained us, Ed and Ovi fixed some plumbing and us girls sat and chatted in the courtyard yard.

A quiet evening tonight before we head out tomorrow to Kachere for the school and feeding center. Ovi is anticipating we will have the opportunity to serve 100 orphans and hopefully help the women cook.

It will be a full 2 weeks……what an honor and privilege to be used by the Creator of the Universe.

How will you let Him use you this week?
