Janine Wasson, Day 6

Friday 4/26/24

An early start for all of us today. We needed to be up and ready to start the conference at 7:30. Our goal was to get done by lunch so that we could enjoy lunch and fellowship with everyone and then they could start heading back to the villages. Some had traveled five hours by bike.

We were all excited after yesterday‘s conference, and were ready to dig back into the Word with the woman. Today’s topics included disciplines of marriage, witnessing, giving, and perseverance. The majority of our time with them today focused on marriage. Based on some of yesterday‘s conversation, we had a feeling that would be the case.

We focused on scripture that included Ephesians 5:32, Titus 2:3-5, Ephesians 5:22-33,

1 Peter 3: 1 and 3-6 as well as 1 Corinthians 7 for marriage. Let me tell you there was a lot of conversation, a lot of digging into Gods truth, sharing burdens, sharing concerns and even sharing frustrations. I pray and believe it was God honoring. Our goal had always been that the women would walk away knowing more about what God has to say about marriage and the role of a wife.

As we shared towards the end and asked how long everyone had been married, one of the women from a village said they have been married for 74 years . So we asked her what was the secret to her marriage. She got very animated with hands moving and moving around in her seat and her voice going up and down. And she shared that they read the Word together, they stay together, they eat together and they go to sleep together.

It was amazing, Titus 2 came into the room without us even planning it. We talked about the importance of older women training the younger women. We encourage the younger women to go to the older women when they need guidance or wisdom. God was definitely in the midst.

Another sweet gift I was given today. I had sat down on a mat as I listened, and I had watched Gabby walk across the room. I got all crocodile tears because I realize God had blessed me to serve with my daughter. To minister to other women side-by-side with my daughter was an amazing gift I will not forget. I was amazed by her wisdom, her compassion and her encouragement that she gave to everyone. What a mama moment!

I pray that all of the women that had the opportunity to come to the conference here at the mission house takes home bits of wisdom, bits of encouragement and challenges. Challenges to be more like the women God wants them to be. Challenges to be more like the wives God wants them to be, we are all work in progress, but what I find is whether here in Africa or back at home, we have a lot of the same challenges. They might look a little bit different, but our hearts are so much the same.
